Angioplasty

Angioplasty is an invasive procedure done to re-open the coronary arteries that supply the heart muscle with oxygen. Atherosclerosis (Coronary Artery Disease) causes blockages or narrowing of the coronary arteries causing the heart muscle to starve for oxygen. Blocked Coronary Artery

When the heart starves for oxygen the first symptom that is felt is angina which is the pains associated with heart disease. If the narrowing progresses or the cholesterol deposits on the arterial walls rupture, a heart attack occurs.

The angioplasty can be done as a precautionary measure, when the doctors determine through an angiogram that the arteries are blocked. It can also be done as an emergency procedure during an acute heart attack. At that time either a coronary balloon or a stent can be inserted.

Why wait till it's too late? You can avoid the need of ever having an angioplasty. Following are several things that you can do to avoid the risk of developing heart disease and needing an angioplasty.

  • Quitting smoking
  • Reducing stress through various relaxation techniques
  • Controlling your blood pressure, through diets exercises, relaxation, vitamins and medications if the need arises
  • Reducing your cholesterol levels through exercise, vitamins, natural cures, and statins if prescribed to do so by your doctor.
Whatever steps you take to improve your health you will never regret!

Why wait till its too late, begin living a heart healthy lifestyle now.
