Exercise to Keep the Heart Healthy
Through Exercise We Keep Our Heart Healthy.
The scenario is rather familiar: you walk into
the doctor's office, and the look on his or her face says it all.
Your doctor is alarmed - almost wincing -- as he reads the results
of your tests: your EKG results are approaching
the danger zone, your body mass index is
way out of kilter, and your cholesterol
levels - the bad cholesterol - have gone beyond the "safe" range.
He tells you to sit down and does not mince his
words. "You need to exercise, change your diet
and no ifs or buts - you need to exercise NOW!"
You try to negotiate by agreeing to change your
diet; you're not "into" exercise. Alas, your doctor has heard it
all before, and shakes his head vigorously, giving you an ultimatum.
You either do as he says or your heart will stop beating in a matter
of months; maybe weeks!
In fact at this stage, your heart
- a.k.a. your most important muscle - is in a sorry state. You shirk
as you imagine yourself struggling with exercise in the gym, and
some militant fitness instructor drilling you on push-ups and leg
presses. Ouch! But still, you accept your doctor's advice. But where
do you start?
