Using Exercise Bikes To Avoid Heart Disease

Aerobic activity that can keep the heart rate raised at 65% to 85% of the maximum heart rate for a minimum of twenty minutes is good for cardiovascular health. Performing an aerobic workout on exercise bikes is an excellent way of protecting individuals from stroke and heart disease.

Bicycle riding at lower levels of intensity may be good way to spend a leisure afternoon in the park. To get the cardiovascular benefits and the aerobic component of exercise the levels of intensity has to be raised so that the heart rate goes up.

The Benefits of Exercise Bikes

The benefit of the newer bikes comes from the speed, intensity and difficulty levels that are pre-programmed in most exercise bikes that have been manufactured in the last ten years. Cycling at faster speeds, higher intensities, and heightened difficulty levels keeping the duration of at least 20-30 minutes in the target heart rate zone, reaps tremendous cardiovascular benefits for the heart.

Aside from its cardiovascular benefits; training on exercise bikes for a minimum of 45 minutes, at lower intensities, (at 55% to 65% of the maximum heart rate) is good for weight loss. Additional calories are used during the exercise, and the metabolism level remains increased for the remainder of the day.

Losing weight is one of the best things that can be done to avoid heart disease, as being overweight is on of the major risk factors for developing heart disease.

When cholesterol levels and fat are reduced by exercise and by a reduction of caloric intake, and proper nutrition is factored in, the arteries to the heart remain unclogged and the heart is better able to perform its principal function - that of delivering oxygenated blood to other parts of the body. When the arteries and blood vessels are not free of fat deposits and plaque build-up, its delivery mechanism becomes inefficient, and that eventually causes angina and a heart attack.
