How The Heart Works

Our Heart the Center of it all

The heart is a large, hollow muscular organ that pumps blood filled with oxygen and nutrients through the blood vessels to the body tissues. It is the hardest working muscle in the entire body.

The average heart beats around 70 beats per minute, which ends up being over 100,000 beats per day and close to 3 billion times over the course of an average lifetime.

The heart muscle and blood vessels compose the cardiovascular system, which is responsible for circulating blood throughout the body. A healthy cardiovascular system is vital to supplying the body with oxygen and nutrients.
