Heart Damage After Heart Attack
Heart attack survivors remain with a damaged heart
muscle.
The reason the heart muscle remains damaged is:
The various coronary arteries in the
coronary
circulation system supply oxygen to different parts of the
heart. When a heart attack occurs there is insufficient blood
supply (oxygen) reaching the heart muscle. The amount of damage
created depends on the size of the area that was supplied by the
blocked artery and the amount of time that elapsed between injury
and treatment.
Regardless, the damage is done, it is irreparable, and a scar
tissue or a scab forms. The area of the scar does not pump efficiently.
It remains weakened forever.
