to achieve the goal you want to obtain. To live a happy active lifestyle
and avoiding heart disease and other life threatening diseases.
Weight Watchers
Weight Watchers operates in about 30 countries around the world,
generally under the name "Weight Watchers" translated into the local
language. In North America alone, 20,000 Weight Watchers meetings
are held weekly. Its most prominent celebrity endorser is Sarah,
Duchess of York.
WW scientific advisory board includes Myron Winick, M.D, WW medical
director, three other physicians and five PhD health researchers
(two of whom hold a PhD in nutrition).
The Program
The POINT system
The POINT system is based on allocating servings of food a specific
number of points.
A program participant is allowed to eat food that amounts to a
certain number of points per week. The number of permitted points
for an individual is calculated based on the individual's weight
goals, and the level of physical activity of the participant.
Every fresh and processed food is assigned a point value. The
fat, calorie and fiber content are taken into account in the WW
Point rating system.
In general, the higher points are assigned to foods that contain
high in both fat and calories, low in fiber. For example, a fried
item (high in fat & calories) is 10 points but a steamed vegetable
is 0 points (low in calories and fat).
Daily points allowed are based on baseline body weight. Participants
are expected to stay within their WW Points range until they achieve
desired weight loss. For example, participants who weigh between
150-174 pounds are allowed 20-25 points daily.
Participants are encouraged (but not required) to attend weekly
meetings held at a convenient location. At these sessions, exchange
tips, recipe and product suggestions, exercise and stress management
concepts are discussed under the direction of a WW group leader
(WW participant who has successfully maintained desired weight loss).
Participants' weigh-in at the beginning of each session and recorded
by WW group leader. On-line WW "home" program is another option
for participants to receive support services offered by WW.
The formula for calculating the POINTS content of a specific food
serving uses a formula described in US Patent 6,040,531: Where p
is the number of points, c is the number of calories, f is the grams
of fat, and r is the grams of dietary fiber (if the dietary fiber
is greater than four, use four).
Theoretically, all foods are allowed assuming participant is able
to keep within daily points allowed. In the WW 7 day way menu planner,
fruits, vegetables and other high-fiber, low-fat foods are staples
of this reducing diet.
The balance of the suggested menu plans are:
55% carbohydrate,
25% fat and
20% protein.
As with any other diet program, each person must decide if this
particular one can work for him, or her. The main objective and
goal is to lose weight, become active, and reduce the risks of getting
heart disease.
If Weight watcher can help, why not give it a try, we will never
regret anything we did to improve our health and wellbeing.
